My final words on Bristol Palin

My feelings about Sarah Palin and John McCain's candidacy aside.

I know from hard experience just how rough it is to be a pregnant teenager. I do NOT know what it's like to be a pregnant teenager about to get married to another teenager while in the national eye.

I do know that Bristol looked absolutely miserable onstage at the RNC, and I am betting something like this was running through her thoughts:

"They're all staring at me and thinking I'm a tramp. I wish I was anywhere but here. I wish I hadn't done it. I wish I could curl up and disappear."

I'm thinking, I'm with Obama on this one.

People's kids need to be off-limits.

Bristol and this Levi fellow of hers are entering into a serious commitment, with a baby coming hard on its heels. The odds are extremely stacked against them from the outset, just because of those two facts of their lives. Add in that this will all be played out on the national stage, and these kids have almost no hope of success in marriage without some sort of miracle.

They don't need pointing fingers. They need to be left alone. And yes, I'm guilty too, with my post the other day.

Yes, they made a mistake in judgement. Yes, they're coping with the after effects of that mistake. No, they did NOT choose to have their mother/future mother in law as a huge political figure. If this were any other kids in America, nobody would care except the local gossip monger.

I say here and now, the only words you will see me or hear me uttering regarding Bristol Palin, Levi, and their baby will be words of support.

The LORD bless them and keep them;
The LORD make His face shine upon them,
And be gracious to them;
The LORD lift up His countenance upon them,
And give them peace.

Amen

Michael Moore's latest documentary

"Slacker Uprising" will be released free on the web on September 23.

"This is being done entirely as a gift to my fans," Moore said in a statement. "The only return any of us are hoping for is the largest turnout of young voters ever at the polls in November."

Moore's spokesman said no consideration was ever given to a theatrical release. A low-cost DVD will be released on October 7.

Analysis: McCain talks unity while allies attack

Original article here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080905/ap_on_el_pr/mccain_s_conflict

Collapse )

Isn't it nice when other people can catch the flak for the slurs and mudslinging?

But we're on to you, Senator McCain. You can pull the strings on your puppets all you want, but intelligent voters know that that's exactly what's happening. Your people wouldn't dare pull that crap out of their hats without your approval.

Can't wait to beat you in November.

"Oh but ain't that America for you and me
Ain't that America, we're somethin' to see baby
Ain't that America, home of the free..
Little pink houses for you and me."

Reagan Democrats

I have read this phrase at least a half dozen times in major news organs in the last week or so.

Am I the only person who feels that a Reagan Democrat is no Democrat, but a Republican? Or at the very least, an independent voter who really shouldn't bother registering as Democrat when they know that they lean far more to the right than the party they espouse? Why DO they register Democrat? To try and monkeywrench the works in the primaries?

My cousin Lori is a "Gore Republican". She registered Republican for the sole purpose of trying to keep Bush from getting his party's nomination. And even I, a diehard liberal democrat who despises Bush, thinks that that was flat out wrong. Cast your vote against the opponent in November, for crying out loud.

Reagan Democrat my fat behind.

Oh Lord, WHY am I not homeschooling this year???

Yesterday it was jacket drama, as laurapatrick so poetically put it this morning.

Today?

First they decide not to get out of bed at 630, because...

Sean: We got our free lunch cards, which gives us breakfast too, so we don't have to wake up early to make oatmeal!

Me: So, you'll arrive at school at 5 minutes to 8 and not have time to eat there, either?

All three: Ohhhh...

So they proceed to get ready. Sean and Evan are at the door, waiting to leave.

Ian decides to sharpen all 25 of his pencils. Nevermind that he's been doing fine with just a couple of sharp pencils for the last NINE DAYS. Today, they must ALL be sharpened.

Me: Ian, quit holding your brothers up.

Ian: But I have to sharpen these pencils!

Me: Do they not have pencil sharpeners at the Junior High School???

Ian: Well yes, but they're not electric.

Me: GTFO OUT MY HOUSE!!! AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!! (insert headspinning and pea soup vomit mental image here)

Ian: (Races out the door with his brothers)

I collapse and come here to whine again. Yesterday, Sean and Evan. Today, Ian. What next? The dog???

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!
