Five calls so far

Since 3:40, which, for the record, was 51 minutes ago, Evan has called five times to ask:

1) Can I go to the library without my big brother accompanying me?
2) Why can't I go to the library without my big brother accompanying me?
3) Can we stay at the library for an hour or two even though my big brother has homework?
4) Can I stop at Owen's house and just stay there instead of coming straight home?
5) Can I eat supper at Owen's house?

1) No, always no, you KNOW this.
2) Because we are uncaring louts who want to stomp on all your fun.
3) No, always no, you KNOW this.
4) Owen lives NEXT DOOR, did you really have to waste prepaid minutes on the prepaid cell phone to call, instead of stopping at home for thirty seconds?
5) Ditto #4

I swear, if he calls for ONE MORE INANE REASON I will rip his dialing finger from his hand and feed it to the dog. :P

Evan petitioned us today

Evan presented us with the following petition today, written in school as an exercise in persuasive argument:

I have been told by my brothers that they are allowed to use their MP3 players in bed, but I can't read in bed. However, they can, on their MP3 players, look at pictures, watch videos, and in the case of Ian, read text documents. This seems a little unfair to me.

I am writing this to ask permission to have a light and be able to read for 30 minutes after lights out to even things out a little.

- Evan

Damned good persuasive argument from a ten year old, wouldn't you say?

However, the answer was no. Because his brothers were taking advantage of something I told them several months ago:

That they can listen to music on their MP3 players for thirty minutes after lights out on NON SCHOOL NIGHTS. Apparently they expanded this to mean watch video and read text stuff on them as well, every night.

So we've corrected this, and Evan is just as welcome to listen to music on his MP3 player on non school nights as his brothers are.

But still, I'm impressed with how he handled this.
