me - wtf?

Friends and memes and shame and birthdays and

I just spent a nice long time on the phone with sammyd. He's a really wonderful and interesting person, spins a good tale, tells a good joke, and I'm so impressed with how he's managing to live his life with some joy in it even after losing his best beloved only a few months ago. I know she is so proud watching him from heaven.

I did a meme over on FB earlier tonight, it's a "How big is your fine" thing, which gives a set fine amount for things like being arrested, vandalizing, smoking pot, and a number of sexual things.

I'm not sure what the highest you can get is, because I didn't continue adding after I got my total, but it can't be that much more than my total, as I don't think there were even ten items on the list I had not done. I find myself ashamed. Deeply and incredibly ashamed that I have done so much that is just so off the wall.

Today was Sam's birthday. I gave him a book of poetry that I got from my friend Suzanne, which he really liked (thank you SO much, Suzanne!) and the boys each gave him a $10 B&N gift card.

And I got this awesome package in the mail today from gina_gwynne! Boatloads of Altoids (and other) tins.. a far out funny book called Give The Bitch Her Chocolate, and the piece de resistance, she MADE me a gorgeous jewelry set (necklace, bracelet, two different sets of matching earrings). I think the stones are rhodochrosite, and there are the most lovely little butterfly and hummingbird charms hanging from the pieces.. and adorable spacer beads of tiny flowers and tiny dragonflies. It's beautiful and the workmanship is incredible, she does not use jump rings, she does wire wrapping, which I can tell you from my days as a rosary maker is time consuming and makes your fingers awfully sore! The love and time put into this is just amazing. I actually cried when I saw it. :) Thank you so much Gina, I love you too! :)

The woes of the freshman algebra grader

Sam is currently ranting and raving about the idiots whose papers he has to grade.

It's rather amusing. :)

He keeps saying "My eyes! They MUST come out! Stupid stupid STUPID people must die because they are stupid!"

Methinks he's mildly annoyed. :D

Paying it forward

On my 40th birthday, just over four years ago, Sam attempted to overdose on his psychiatric medication. Most of you here remember that. It was pretty gritty there for a while.

My friend from #Callahans, ArcMaster, took the bull by its horns and purchased an incredible, heavy duty safe for me to keep all of our household's medications in. That thing turned out to be a lifesaver. On at least one occasion Sam tried like insanity to get into it to OD and couldn't. Thank God. It also kept him out of my painkillers, except when I would forget to lock those back up.

Now one of my closest friends here in Ponder has an addict/suicidal son who keeps stealing her and her daughter's pain management meds.

So today I bought them a safe similar to the one Arc got for me. It should arrive in about 3 days, allowing time for warehouse handling.

It feels good to be able to pay forward such an amazing gift of life as the one Arc gave to our family four years ago.

And I will always have a tender spot in my heart for that good man.
