It's almost like there are these periods where our relationship is smooth and steady, and then there are times when it's like standing on the edge of this gorgeous, wonderful waterfall and just letting yourself drop, knowing that there's a safe pool of water ready to catch you at bottom. You take the plunge and you're in wayyyy over your head, but oh man, it's exhilarating, it's breathtaking, it's just incredible and you feel better than you ever have before and the water is cool and refreshing and exactly what you needed.

Sam is my waterfall.

Happy anniversary

Tuesday was Sam's and my 4th anniversary.

Still the best thing I've ever done in my life.

For a present, we got an email from the university letting him know that this fall he will be assigned to the math lab for work..

and working six hours a week at $22 an hour.

We cannot afford to live.

I don't know what to do. It looks like he will have to leave school.

Borderline symptom of the day: scaredscared

happy anniversary! sorry to hear about sam's lack of job, though :( it'll really suck if he has to leave.

Happy anniversary. As someone who is himself fighting with stupid university people, I must ask: there are loans available for graduate students. Is the school denying those to Sam? I don't think they can.

No, he gets the loans, but they don't provide anywhere near enough to survive on for the year.

Have Sam go to the financial aid office and tell them your predicament. There are often grants, loans, and whatnot. Also, have him talk to his adviser and the department head. It almost certainly can be made to work.

I've been through the school system, and although I now have massive loans to pay back, it can be done, even without a job for most of the time.

Oh, man. *thumbs held*

Can he negotiate to see about getting more?
