...... .:::.:.:

It's almost like there are these periods where our relationship is smooth and steady, and then there are times when it's like standing on the edge of this gorgeous, wonderful waterfall and just letting yourself drop, knowing that there's a safe pool of water ready to catch you at bottom. You take the plunge and you're in wayyyy over your head, but oh man, it's exhilarating, it's breathtaking, it's just incredible and you feel better than you ever have before and the water is cool and refreshing and exactly what you needed.

Sam is my waterfall.

WTF does this have to do with educating children???

(1) ACCESS TO STUDENT RECRUITING INFORMATION- Notwithstanding section 444(a)(5)(B) of the General Education Provisions Act and except as provided in paragraph (2), each local educational agency receiving assistance under this Act shall provide, on a request made by military recruiters or an institution of higher education, access to secondary school students names, addresses, and telephone listings.

(2) CONSENT- A secondary school student or the parent of the student may request that the student's name, address, and telephone listing described in paragraph (1) not be released without prior written parental consent, and the local educational agency or private school shall notify parents of the option to make a request and shall comply with any request.

(3) SAME ACCESS TO STUDENTS- Each local educational agency receiving assistance under this Act shall provide military recruiters the same access to secondary school students as is provided generally to post secondary educational institutions or to prospective employers of those students.

Borderline symptom of the day: angryLIVID!

I think this was one of the changes introduced by the so-called patriot Act?

No this is from the No Child Left Behind Act, which is supposed to be about ensuring that America's children get a good education.

At a cursory glance, it looks like this is the same ol' story of the military trying to get hold of the kids before drugs, alcohol or sports get their grubby paws on'em...

Considering it's in regards to the recruitment office, it seems very likely, in fact. As the US has a volunteer enlistment-based military service, it is rather logical, really... for aggressive recruitment drives.

That, of course, doesn't make it any more appealing, though.

...And there I read the immediately preceding post. Go me. I've got to start scrolling up from the bottom when catching up on my Friendslist... -.-

I feel giving up this information by default is obscene. Growing up recruiters visited our school but no personal information was given to them.

I believe recruiting stations should only be allowed in the nearest veteran's hospital and recruitment should only be conducted by retirees.

I'm with you.
