Waterfalls
It's almost like there are these periods where our relationship is smooth and steady, and then there are times when it's like standing on the edge of this gorgeous, wonderful waterfall and just letting yourself drop, knowing that there's a safe pool of water ready to catch you at bottom. You take the plunge and you're in wayyyy over your head, but oh man, it's exhilarating, it's breathtaking, it's just incredible and you feel better than you ever have before and the water is cool and refreshing and exactly what you needed.

Sam is my waterfall.

60th Wedding Anniversary

Our friends Art and Frances McKinley are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary next month and we've been invited to the party.

What on EARTH do you give as a gift for such an occasion???

You're broke. (I know you know this.)

So by far, the best thing to write is a retrospective of their marriage in a several page personal letter, talking about how their clear love of each other led you to hold them as role models for how marriage works for the rest of your life, and how you hope your marriage will stand the test of time as theirs will.

Focus a lot on their experiences, go lightly on your own. Talk about memories you have of them.

Trust me, far more priceless and far more cheap than gold / diamond trinkets.

I love the idea, but in practice it won't work simply because I've only known them since last June..

BUT..

I think that I can do something with this and something my friend Laura suggested.

I do polymer clay art, and I'm going to make them a plaque in polymer with their names and the year they were married (1949!) on it.

And I'll write them something about how their longevity and love for each other gives Sam and I something to emulate and admire.

Thanks Jessica :)
